Rocco Pisto: Watercolor Techniques 2-Day Workshop

This November Geek Brush Studio is honored to host the first of many Watercolor Workshops with professional artist, Rocco Pisto.

Have you ever wanted to learn the nuances of watercolor? Or have you been looking to upgrade your current skill level? Or perhaps you are just looking to practice in new ways and bring new ideas to your already amazing works?

You are in luck because ALL experience levels are welcome to join in this workshop! Whether you're brand new to watercolor or a seasoned watercolorist, everyone benefits and learns from each other. This is a 2-Day workshop. **Please note, you only need to register once for both classes in the series.**

Supplies Required (bring your own or purchase them at Geek Brush Studio--supplies purchased through Geek Brush Studio must be ordered in advance to insure arrival in time for class.) Below is a list of recommended supplies:

  • Paints: Professional grade preferred (Lukas, Winsor&Newton, Holbein)
  • Brushes: Goat Hair Wash, size 3; Princeton Elite Series 4850 Synthetic Brushes and Sets (Round 8, Long Round 12, Mottler 1-1/2", and Oval Wash 3/4").
  • Paper: Arches Watercolor Block - 18x24, Cold Press, 20 Sheets
  • Container for water
  • Palette: Egg cartons or other pan (be sure to squeeze tube paint into palette wells to dry a few days prior)
  • Tape: Scotch Blue Painter's Tape - 1.88" x 60 yds
  • X-Acto Knife: #1

A 1-hour lunch break will be taken, so plan accordingly.

About the Artist:

Rocco has spent over 50 years as an artist, focused primarily on abstract watercolor painting.

Rocco earned a Bachelor of Fine Art degree from Eastern Michigan University in 1974 with post-

baccalaureate studies and Master of Fine Art work at both Wayne State University and Eastern Michigan University. As a graduate student, Rocco was granted a teaching fellowship.

Currently, Rocco is President Emeritus of the Michigan Watercolor Society (MWCS) after serving for more than 10 years on the board holding various positions. He also holds both a Signature

Membership and Great Lakes Fellow designation in that group; as well as memberships in the

National Watercolor Society, International Society of Experimental Artists (ISEA), and the Brighton

Art Guild.

Rocco’s art work has won several awards from different nationally recognized artists that jury the

MWCS Annual Exhibitions. He has also been asked to jury various community exhibitions and

provide experimental watercolor workshops. Currently based in Michigan, Rocco has exhibited in a number of galleries in Ohio, Michigan and Arizona.
